The Land and The People

The Land

Sustainable Farming: To demonstrate sustainable farming practices and reintegrate farming into the everyday experience of people.

"Green" Construction: To demonstrate “green” construction and sustainable living design and incorporate these practices into in-fill and redevelopment projects for the benefit of the community.

Open SpaceTo provide outdoor spaces which encourage leisurely appreciation of the natural environment and refreshment for the human psyche.

Site Reclamation:  To preserve open space and to reclaim and revitalize abandoned or neglected sites.

The People

Life-Long Learning:  To support and encourage independent, life-long learning.

Skills, Crafts, & Arts: To support and encourage the practice of traditional and historical skills and crafts and personally meaningful arts.

Genuine Community:  To provide the opportunity for people to develop a sense of community by engaging with others on more than a transactional or need-based level.

Generosity: To provide a place where people can experience generosity and attentiveness, come to remember how worthwhile they are and how extraordinary the world is, and as a result rediscover their own capacity for generosity to others and attentiveness to the world around them.

Active Participation: To encourage members of the community to be active participants in rather than merely observers of the above practices.
